Another Semester Opens New Doors

As I begin my second semester at Canisius, so begins the challenge and intensity of the courses within my schedule. However, as the past two months of my spring semester have unfolded I have found that in getting involved outside of the classroom, opens a whole new level of opportunity. College as a whole experience is more than attending lecture classes, or completing homework, it’s the ability to apply the knowledge learned within the classroom to other useful tasks, and real world situations. I have found that through getting involved in clubs, and activities on campus several different benefits have arisen.

Dinner out with the girls on Bosch 4!!!

Like many freshmen combating with the new challenges of college I feared getting involved in clubs outside of the classroom, for fear that I would fall behind with my studies. So giving into this fear, my first semester at Canisius I participating in very few clubs/activities. Yet, after completing my fall semester, I found myself much more eager to be involved, and came to the conclusion that I was capable of much more than I was giving myself credit for. Realizing this I have become and active member of several clubs on campus including: Eurosim (a group that partakes in simulations of the European Union with other colleges/Universities all over the world), Unity (the gay- straight alliance), Task group German (a group of compiled students working to advise the German department on its developing courses), and I also am a work study student, in the admissions office.

Through each of the clubs/activities that I have become involved in has not only introduced me to more Canisius students of all ages, but has also allowed me to build, as well as use knowledge that I have learned within the classroom. On top of this, through clubs such as Eurosim you are given the opportunity not only to travel within the state of New York, or just the United States, but also to other European countries for competitions.

The social interaction, the relaxed learning atmosphere, and simply the act of being involved has been beneficial to me as a student
