Requirements
  • When reviewing applications for admission, the Admissions Committee looks for students with at least a solid B average in a college preparatory program of study.  Rigor of curriculum, including the types of courses being taken in the senior year, is considered the most important factor in the admissions decision.

  • Candidates for admission to the college should complete the admissions application form and present it to their high school counselor so that an official high school transcript can be attached to it.  A check or money order made payable to Canisius College for the application fee should be included with the completed application form.  Letters of recommendation and a personal statement are not required but recommended.  These additional items will be considered in reviewing applications for admission.

  • Candidates are strongly encouraged, but not obliged, to visit the college for an interview with a member of the Admissions staff.  Students are required to take the SAT-I or the ACT.  These tests may be taken in the junior or senior year of high school.  The student must arrange for a record of their SAT or ACT scores to be sent to Canisius College.
Secondary School Preparation
Student's secondary school program should include a minimum of 16 units of credit in college preparatory academic subjects.  The College will consider courses in the areas of English, social studies, science, mathematics, and foreign language.

When Your Students Should Apply
Canisius adheres to a rolling admission policy that allows students to apply at any time until the class is full.  Canisius offers a priority consideration deadline of November 15.  If your students apply by this time, they will receive their admissions decision and scholarship notification by December 15.  If they choose this option, they will still have until May 1, the national Candidates’ Reply Date Agreement, to make their college decision.  We encourage all high school seniors to apply by March 1 of their senior year for full and equal consideration.
