11-09-04 Stop the Presses…HUGE NEWS!
Hello All!
So something very exciting happened almost immediately after I had written my last journal entry…the suspense is killing you isn’t it?! Well…I became President of the Commuter Student Association! Yippee for me!!! hehe
With this new responsibility I have been even busier than before. I am in charge of keeping up to date with activities and events around campus so that CSA may have the opportunity to become involved or maybe just so CSA members are informed about the on-campus events that they can attend.

Here I am (in the middle) with my friends getting ready for the big night ahead! |

One thing that I was in charge of, along with Janel Davis (Vice President of the JUSTICE Board of Student Senate), was the Sleep-Out for the Homeless, which took place on Wednesday, October 27th. This was an amazing event in which everybody that participated had a great time. What this event dealt with was raising the awareness of those that are homeless around the Buffalo area to Undergraduates who attend Canisius. We had about 55-60 people attend the event and it lasted from 9 pm at night until 7 am in the morning. For about the first hour or two, people set up boxes in which they would be sleeping in for the night. Then after that people just hung out with each other and chatted while trying to keep warm. As for myself, since I was in charge of the event, I stayed up for mostly the entire night except for brief intervals for naps. When I did happen to really sleep, I was underneath a huge pile of blankets on a wooden bench. Overall, we raised around $1,000 and donated about 60 blankets to an area homeless shelter, Hearts for the Homeless.
Another interesting event that I was able to participate in, for the second year in a row, was the BPO & Canisius Chorale connection. This year it was under the direction of Conductor Spigelman. It was a great honor to sing alongside such a world-renowned orchestra and actually sound pretty good. Our portion of the concert went pretty well and then the orchestra finished with a beautiful arrangement of Beethoven’s 1st symphony.
In closing, time is becoming ever so precious to me as I get deeper into the semester. Since my computer is breaking down, I have to do a lot of my homework either at the library or in the clubroom. Also, this is the time where professors begin to really start laying the homework down on you. It’s amazing how much work they expect out of college kids. Ehh we’re always up for a challenge! Coming up on November 19th is the college’s annual Semi-Formal which is basically an in between of Homecoming and Senior Prom. You basically don’t go out and rent a tux but you don’t just wear a shirt without a tie. You just put on the best suit that you have lying around at home, swing along a date, and you’re golden. There’s dinner and then dancing for 2 ½ hours with Shy Guy Shawn from Kiss 98.5. It should be an awesome time because I have possibly the best date in the world (notice the sucking up haha). Take care people and I hope all of you have a great turkey day and don’t forget that this is the season for being thankful and remembering those who are not with us anymore! God bless…
