02-23-05 Another Day, Another Adventure Unfolding…

Welcome back!

Hope that everybody’s Valentine’s Day was very romantic and cute.  Mine was actually pretty easy; I just got my Valentine a card! Haha Hope you all remembered to get your mother’s something since I had mentioned it in my last journal entry.
So it is about a month into the semester and I’m almost at the point of midterms! This is crazy, I feel like the time is just flying right past me and I’m not even along for the ride. People are asking me all the time how I have been because I’ve been on and off campus so much and not really hanging out with a lot of people that I just say, “Tired”.  I never thought that a human being like me could be as busy as I have been lately. Since I am very busy, I slowly see my schoolwork declining which was the case 2nd semester last year too so maybe it’s a habit growing behavior…I sure hope not.

Here's a picture of my desk.  I thoughtI needed showcase it because this iswhere I've been putting in a lot of hours.

Here’s my schedule throughout the week to show you how busy I am:
Mon.- Classes at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 1:30, work study from 3-5, then Chorale 6:30-9.
Tues.- Work study 9-11, Classes 1-4, work study from 4-6ish usually, then Senate Mtg. at 7-8
Wed.- Classes same times as Mon., Usually CSA Mtgs. at 3, RA Mtgs. at 5:30, Church Choir rehearsal at 7-8:30, and then a RA staff Mtg. at 9:30
Thurs.- Work-study and classes the same as Tuesday, CME (Church Choir on campus) from 7-8, and sometimes I might have to work that night at McDonald’s also.
Fri.- eh…I’ve gone so far in my schedule that I think you get the hint…

So needless to say that living on campus is not helping out my grades like I thought that it would.  I am spending even more time on campus itself instead of in my dorm room and have gotten myself SUPER involved and by the time I get home around 11 PM I do not feel like doing homework at all. I feel like this because I have to wake up at 7 to wake up for classes or work-study again! Plus, another distraction that I have found on campus is TV.  I believe I watch a little bit more TV now than when I was at home. Especially at 1 AM every night on the Disney Channel…I know that you know what I’m talking about.  Yes, BOY MEETS WORLD! It is my favorite show to watch at 1 AM in the morning when I should be doing homework. Such is life I guess.

So besides the school work or lack there of, CSA is going really well.  We are doing a clothing drive as in selling t-shirts and hoodies that show our commuter pride and are holding a breakfast for Commuters in the near future w/red bull!  Something that I’m planning down the road is co-sponsorship with Children’s Hospital to raise money for their Children’s Ward.  If you happened to listen to Kiss 98.5 the other weekend, you would know about becoming a Miracle Maker.  That is what I’m talking about.

The RA position is also coming along just peachy!  The whole staff is very nice and helpful and at first I really felt like I didn’t fit in but after a few meetings and our All-staff program, I’m feeling very comfortable with just sitting back and talking to them.  I had my reapplying interview and I believe that it also went pretty well.  Not so sure if I’m going to accept the position if I get rehired…depending on if I get on the ball with my schoolwork.

Final Thought: Sometimes in life things will happen and you will not understand why it is happening to you and no one else.  It may be a crisis at the time but down the road you will be able to look back and laugh at the whole thing.  For the most part, you will be better off in the long run.  Also, always respect and cherish the time that you get to spend with your elders, whether your own or of a friends.  They are here for such a short time in our lives to forget about them and the memories that we have with them.  R.I.P. Nana

Guess I’m just in an emotional mood right now but it happens to everybody.  I’ve been debating whether or not to do KAIROS that Campus Ministry offers to Canisius College students.  It’s where you spend the whole weekend at a camp and truly have some alone time for yourself and reflect on every aspect of your life.  It helps you become more of a spiritual person, maybe not necessarily more religious but I’ve heard that it is life altering and really changes your views on certain things.  Maybe during the Fall Semester I’ll sign up for it.  God bless you and I’ll be writing back soon.

P.S. For my Spring Break, I’m going to Kentucky for the Alternative Spring Break where I help renovate homes for the entire week for fun! Woohoo!
