5-17-04 The End and a New Beginning
Well I’ve finally reached the end of my freshmen year and all I can say is wow! It has definitely been one crazy ride and I can’t wait to repeat it for another three years. In this journal I will view my freshmen year in an overview.
First I will start out with the clubs. In the beginning of the year, I was really motivated to become involved in everything that possibly called themselves a club. I soon realized that this would be completely impossible unless all I wanted to do was participate in club activities and sleep! I had to make some time for homework so I finally stayed with my new family, the Commuter Student Association. CSA has kept me up many late nights with the workload that I had to do for them but I’d say that it was definitely worth every second. All the friends and good times that I have made my first year at college extremely enjoyable.
Next, I would like to give appreciation to the staff that works hard at Canisius College. This staff fully understands how the incoming freshmen feel when they come to Canisius. When I first arrived at Canisius, I was immediately welcomed by Campus Ministry. I helped out with the first mass of the year and went on the freshmen retreat that they offered. Although since then I have kind of broken away from Campus Ministry, it was a very good experience and I solidified some relationships that have lasted for the entire year. Hopefully in the future I look forward to getting involved in the Campus Ministry again. The exit of Campus Ministry quickly led me to the Student Activities office in which I met Shannon Murphy, Stephanie Ketterl and Elaine! All three are wonderful people who made me feel like I meant something to the college and can have an impact if I fully applied myself to doing good towards the college. Unfortunately Shannon has left us and Steph will be graduating next year but the secretary Elaine will still be there!
Now to the most important thing in college, class itself!!! The work load at college is definitely more lengthy but not necessarily harder then your high school teachers make you think. I can say that college is a lot more reading than in high school and if you don’t read, you definitely will fall behind and suffer. Depending on the professor, also, they might be there chasing you down about tests and such, but otherwise you are left on your own to venture for yourself. It is very easy to just go through college and receive C’s and do nothing at college but that’s not what the whole college experience is about. College is not just classes, but a chance for people to come into their own and see what their limitations are and expand beyond these horizons. During these four years, you should develop skills that will prepare you for the real world and the experiences and education you receive at Canisius will help you when you enter the real world.
Now some of you might be thinking…what is this new beginning? Well I am glad that you asked. I’m going to stay on for E-Journaling for next year!!! But not only am I staying on for next year but I’m also going to be writing during the summer too! If you are planning on coming to Canisius and indeed are coming here for the next fall semester, you can personally meet me because I will be on the Freshmen Orientation Team! I will be able to take autographs at the time of your arrival but please don’t flatter me because I will blush! Ha-ha! So if you’re wondering what living on campus is like during the summer and want to know what 16 people do all by themselves over a long summer, I can tell you! Well if this is the last journal some of you read from me, I wish all of you a joyous Independence Day and a great and healthy summer! Go Griffs and Class of ’07!!!
Of Course Your Favorite College Buddy,
