Summer's End

Orientation was quite an experience and as I explained in my last journal entry, the days were really long. Only running on four hours of sleep definitely beats up on you, but by the last session, I had built up a tolerance to it. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true! None-the-less, I met a lot of really nice first year students and their families. I also learned more about Canisius than I ever thought possible.

The staff was extremely happy and sad at the end of the last session. We were happy we could actually sleep on normal schedules again, but we also knew that it meant the end of our "family" we had built over the past couple months. About half of the staff moved home for the remainder of the summer but a few of us were lucky enough to be able to stay on campus the rest of the summer. This was because we had secondary jobs on campus, mine being in the Office of Admissions.

I have worked in the Admissions since I first started here at Canisius as a transfer student (sophomore) in August 2004. Since then, I have worked at the front desk, as a tour guide, and have also participated in telecounseling. It has also inspired me to make a future in Higher Education. I plan to stay at Canisius College for graduate studies in College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA) after I graduate this year with a B.A. in Psychology.

I also took one last vacation this summer to visit another friend from Canisius. I went down to Cleveland, Ohio with four friends to visit with my roommate for this coming fall. We went to Cedar Point for a day and I rode the tallest rollercoaster in the world! I was so scared, but it was so much fun. It was also nice to get a break from working for the long weekend and enjoy summer.

It's now a week before classes start and all of my friends are starting to come back to campus. I cannot believe the summer is coming to an end, it has definitely flown by. I am extremely excited for the semester to start though. It is great to see everyone again and get back into the swing of things. Its bitter sweet though, considering that this is my last year here as an undergrad, but I am still ready to close another chapter in my life.
