The Reality of College

Oh my gosh, I’m in college!  Reality has just now sunk in … I’m not in high school anymore.

Lucky for me, I didn’t have to travel too far from home to get to Canisius, where I am now LIVING!  Actually if I wanted to, I could probably walk home from here.  But it’s all about the experience!  I just had to dorm.  In my opinion, college isn’t college unless you’re living there.

I was pretty nervous coming to welcome weekend, but I think my excitement overrode my nervousness.  I did not know my roommate before hand, except for what I learned from her facebook page.  I’m almost positive that she thought I was obnoxious the first time that she met me.  A bad habit of mine is that when I am nervous, I talk a lot and really fast.  Yeah … someone should’ve just smacked me right then and there!  It’s ok though because my roommate and I get along really well now, and I think were going to be great friends.

I met so many people just within my first week of school!  Though, I did already know a lot of incoming freshmen.  Quite a few girls that I went to school with, as well as some kids that I performed with in a musical at a nearby all-boys school are also freshmen here.  I went to an all girls high school called Holy Angels Academy, so doing the musical at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute was probably the best risk I ever took.  Anyway, I’ll save that story for when I visit this year's show at St. Joe’s!

One of the first things that I noticed as a freshman in college, is that I can do whatever I want, and go wherever I want...AND I don’t have to ask permission.  I have complete freedom.  Well, for the most part.  Another great thing about this school are the free NFTA passes.  My friends took complete advantage of that this past month.  So what does a freshman do on a long Saturday afternoon?  CLEARLY they wander the campus and then take the subway to Starbucks.  And that is what my new friend Dylan and my old friend Liz and I did.

College is such a different experience from anything else I’ve ever been a part of, and I am SO excited.  I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.  I’ll be keeping you posted!  ‘Til next time, adios!
