Canisius College offers an extensive merit-based scholarship program to award students with outstanding academic achievement. Last year, Canisius College offered more than $36 million in academic merit scholarships to the freshman class.
Academic scholarships are based on your three-year cumulative high school average (freshman through junior year) and your highest SAT combined score or ACT composite score of tests taken by December 31. Academic scholarships range from $10,000 to full-tuition per year and are renewable for four years. If you qualify for an academic scholarship, you will be notified with your admissions decision letter.

The following values are for new, incoming freshmen in the 2012-2013 school year.
Competitive Merit Scholarships
A limited number of four-year Presidential (full-tuition) scholarships will be offered to students who display exceptional academic achievement. If nominated to compete for these awards, students will be contacted by the Office of Admissions to participate in Presidential Scholars Days to be held on February 11 & 12, 2012. Students wishing to be considered must apply to Canisius College by January 15, 2012.
Merit Scholarships (unlimited number)
Students will be considered for the following scholarships based upon their six semester grades and scores on the SAT or ACT exams. All students are recommended to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for other need-based aid.
Trustee's Scholarship
$16,000 - $17,000 per year for four years of full-time study.
Applicants must be accepted for admission. No separate application required.
Dean's Scholarship
$12,000 - $13,000 per year for four years of full-time study.
Applicants must be accepted for admission. No separate application required.
Benefactor's Scholarship
$9,000 - $10,000 per year for four years of full-time study.
Applicants must be accepted for admission. No separate application is required.
Transfer Scholarships
Students who are accepted for transfer admission to Canisius are automatically evaluated for an academic merit scholarship. Transfer scholarships are based on college GPA.
The following values are for new, incoming transfers in the 2012-2013 school year.
Canisius College Transfer Scholarship
Qualifications: Transfer students possessing a 2.5 or higher cumulative Grade Point Average.
Awards: Ranging from $6,000 to $12,000 based on academic merit (rigor of coursework and grades). Scholarships are renewable for a total of six undergraduate semesters, so long as the student maintains a Q.P.A. of 2.0 and full-time status.
How to apply: Students are automatically considered for this scholarship upon acceptance for admission. No separate application is required. All students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship / Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship
Qualifications: Transfer students with a 3.0 Q.P.A. and proof of induction. Students may receive only one of either the Alpha Beta Gamma or the Phi Theta Kappa scholarships. Either of these awards can be received in addition to the Canisius Transfer Scholarships.
Awards: $2,000 per year based upon merit. Awards are renewable for a total of six undergraduate semesters, so long as the student maintains good academic standing and full-time status.
How to apply: Students are automatically considered for this scholarship upon acceptance for admission. No separate application is required. All students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA to be considered for need-based aid.
International Scholarships
International students must be enrolled full time and intend to study all four years at Canisius College. Students are automatically reviewed for scholarship when being considered for admission. Scholarship amounts vary for international students and are based on previous academic achievement. Canisius does not award full-tuition scholarships.

Specialized Scholarships
In addition to the general scholarships offered to prospective freshman in the 2012-2013 academic year, Canisius College has continued its commitment to affordable education with scholarship awards for students with special interests.
Urban Leadership Learning Community Scholarship
The ULLC Scholarship is a competitive, four-year renewable scholarship covering 50-100 percent of a student’s tuition, room/ board and fees. The purpose of the scholarship is to help finance one’s education, while taking into account demonstrated financial need for students with an interest in promoting diversity and an inclusiveness in learning, living, and problem solving. Canisius College offers a limited number of $1,000/year scholarships in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King. Applicants must be accepted for admission.
