The Anchor Bar
Home of the original Buffalo Chicken Wing, need we say more?
http://www.anchorbar.com/index.aspThe Anchor Bar is one of my favorite local hot spots. Home to Buffalo's original wings and a great place to go for jazz nights on weekends, Anchor Bar has an authentic Buffalo feel and is a must for anyone living in or visiting the area.

Lake View, NYAfter my Friday classes last semester, my roommates and I hopped on the Metro and went down to Anchor Bar to relax after a tough week of midterms. We watched the Sabres game at the bar, had their famous wings, and enjoyed the Buffalo atmosphere in full swing on a Friday night! Aside from hanging out at the bar and watching the game, the Anchor Bar has an extensive "pub" menu and regularly hosts local bands during the evening on weekends. If you're in Buffalo, you cannot miss out on the Anchor Bar! -- Chris Zinter '07

Spot Coffee
Inspired by Seattle coffeehouses. Features fresh roasted gourmet coffee, fresh baked muffins, scones, cookies and more! A great place to study, or catch up with friends while listening to live music. The Elmwood Avenue location is connected to a New World Records shop.
Spot coffee is amazing, it provides a nice relaxing atmosphere to get work done or just hang out with friends while enjoying great coffee and treats. The menu is endless and full of variety. You will most likely find it difficult to choose what to drink each time, but whatever you pick I guarantee you'll enjoy!

Shea's Buffalo Center for the Performing Arts
Only a short subway ride away! A national historic site featuring off-broadway and first-run plays, musicals, and concerts. The Canisius College Office of Campus Programming & Leadership Develeopment offers students discounted tickets to various performances.
http://www.sheas.org/ Shea's Theatre is definitely one of the hot spots in the Buffalo area and is very easily accessible for Canisius College students. This past semester, my best friend and I decided to go an hour and a half before the performance of RENT and were able to get front row seats! It was an amazing performance! Besides the Broadway performances, music performers are also a big hit here!-- Jenn Malue '09

Metro Rail
O.K., so it's not a hot spot, but it can get you to a lot of them ... and for free! Students at Canisius are given a Metro-Canisius Transit Pass that allows them free and unlimited usage of the Metro Bus and Rail system.
Albright-Knox Art Gallery
One of the nation's oldest public arts organizations is right in our backyard! The Albright-Knox boasting a world-renowned art collection and a reputation as an outstanding center of modern art.
Gusto at the Gallery - Free Fridays from 3 to 10 p.m.!

Delaware Park
Created by Fredrick Law Olmsted, this 350-acre setting is Buffalo's "Central Park," and it's only steps away from the Canisius campus. Programs such as Yoga, Tai Chai, Movies in the Meadow, Shakespeare in the Park, and boating in Hoyt Lake are just some examples of what one may find within Delaware Park.
I love Delaware Park. It is so nice to have a place to run, rollerblade, or just sit near a lake to study. It is so close and convenient.--

Delaware park is my favorite spot in Buffalo because it's walking distance from Canisius, it's a pretty park that you can run and walk around. It's also fun to sit in the park and work on some homework with friends. When running or walking around the park you can see part of the zoo and some nice houses in the Parkside neighborhood.--

Elmwood Avenue Elmwood is the strip to be on in Buffalo. You'll find some of the best eats in Buffalo on this strip including Pano's and Jim's Steakout, both of which are open late. Looking to find that unique gift, you're bound to find it in one of the many specialty boutiques here. And if you are just looking for another place to study or hang out try one of the many coffee shops that line the avenue.
Some of my favorite places include Jim's Steakout because they have the best chicken finger subs and steak hoagies in the city, and Pano's for its relaxed college atmosphere with amazing food and low prices.

HSBC Arena
WNY's premier sports and entertainment facility located on Buffalo's waterfront. Although it is primarily known as the home of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres this state-of-the-art venue also hosts the best concerts and other professional and collegiate sporting events.
http://www.hsbcarena.com/
I also think that HSBC arena is the coolest place to go. It is so easy to jump on one of the subway stops on campus and go to HSBC. All of the concerts, Sabres games, Bandits games, and any other event that might be happening is always great entertainment and a great study break!

Buffalo Marina
Pictured is the Buffalo lighthouse, built in 1833. It is the oldest building on Buffalo's waterfront and one of the oldest lighthouses on the Great Lakes.
I never visited the marina in Buffalo until I came to Canisius. It is a really nice spot to go with friends and just relax after long days of classes when the weather is nice. There is a little ice cream shop right by the water and also places to buy food. My friends and I like to sit on the rocks to talk and take pictures for Facebook! Overall, when the weather is nice, the Marina is a great place to relax and hang out with friends.

Fountain Plaza
Located in downtown Buffalo, the reflecting pool and splashing fountain are showcased during the warmer months, while in the winter the reflecting pool becomes an ice rink!
Last year my friends and I went ice skating at Fountain Plaza and we had a great time. It was reallyconvenient because the subway drops you off right in front, and the rentals are really inexpensive...only about $3. It's an outside rink which is cool because you can see downtown lit up, and it makes for a fun outing and a little exercise too! We are planning another trip sometime soon!

Fountain Plaza is a great place to have a cheap but fun date night. You can go ice skating for practically nothing, but then hit Friday's for dinner right across the way.

Dipson Market Arcade Film & Arts Centre
The Market Arcade shows everything from the latest blockbuster hits to independent films. They also host a number of great film festivals and seminars.
One of my favorite places in Buffalo is the Market Arcade Theatre. It's a great place to view the new releases at an affordable price, and accessible by the Metro Rail.
