A Simple Transition
Many people ask me, “Jonathan, what do you think of Buffalo coming from NYC?” At first, I couldn’t fully answer this question and thinking about it made me want to go back, but if you're as lucky as I am, you’ll soon be looking forward to each day Buffalo and Canisius brings to you.
Before I get into the great adventures I’ve been in during my short stay in Buffalo so far, let me introduce myself. My name is Jonathan Montero and I was born and raised in Bronx, NY. It’s the most northern of boroughs in the city. However, not too long ago, my dad got an apartment in Upper East Side Manhattan. I guess you can say we’re moving-on-up like the Jeffersons. We struggled a lot, but I’m one to take the rough times of life and simply learn from it. I have two brothers who are both older than I am and no sisters. Yes, you can say I’m the “baby” of the family but please don’t ever call me that. Back in NYC I went to the movies a lot with my friends and just spent quality time with them. I was wondering if I would ever meet great people like them here in Buffalo. My question was answered with the first, “Hey, my name is Jonathan”.
Yes, it was really that simple. The people in Buffalo are absolutely great. I live in a suite in Bosch and all my roommates are from around the area. They’re all great and I strongly believe they’re the best roommates around. You just have to love the distinct sense of humor within each of them. Coming from NYC they were not hesitant to welcome me to their homes in times of need. Not only are they great, but I’ve also made many friends around campus quickly. There are people I feel that I can really know for the rest of my life. You could also be lucky and get to know people from the surrounding colleges like I did.
When deciding my colleges I also looked at Buff State. It was the only SUNY School I applied to. One look at the Canisius Quad, however, made all that change. I mean it’s absolutely beautiful. However, I digress. The point is that, my friends from high school decided to go there. One actually has a car, and if it’s not obvious, we tend to go out when we can. Another friend also went to UB. This works out pretty well because it gives us all more opportunities to meet other great people you normally wouldn’t get the chance to meet, unless of course you use Facebook. In my short stay here I’ve been on the Miss Buffalo, a boat ride along the Niagara River, fabulous restaurants, including IHOP, which I absolutely love (how can you resist the buttermilk pancakes?)

Well it’s about time for me to wrap it up. I’ll keep everyone notified of my adventures here in Canisius. I plan to head to a well-known diner called Milkshakes and I hope to head downtown sometime. As for Buffalo it’s great. Coming from NYC I would say it was a simple transitions. Great city, great people, great food, you just have to love it!
