8-14-2004 A great summer in Buffalo
I hope everyone had an awesome summer! I really have enjoyed myself here these last few months. I’ve been able to learn and experience so much more about Canisius and the surrounding area. This summer I’ve visited Niagara Falls, went to Shakespeare in the Park and Thursday at the Square, and participated in at least 5 on-campus events. By going to all these programs I was able to meet many people from the Buffalo area.

Here I am with friends Katie and Margaret in Lewiston, a quaint town about 30 minutes North of Buffalo. |
As Resident Assistants we are in charge of hosting at least two community builders. Community builders are for on-campus residents. These events are free and are held throughout the summer. The purpose of a community builder is to encourage resident interaction through fun games, food and entertainment. Community builders have been very popular among students because it gives residents something to do, and there is always free food! As community builders, the RA staff has had Pasta Nights, Ice Cream Socials, Movie and Dessert Nights. By the end of the summer our staff will have hosted over 12 on-campus events.
Another exciting off-campus event that happens in Buffalo is “Thursday at the Square.” This takes place downtown in Lafayette Square, which is very accessible for Canisius students through our Metro system. Some bands that have played are Fuel, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Blue Rodeo, Black 47, and many more. It is a lot of fun listening to the bands, and, Thursday at the Square is a fantastic way to experience the nightlife of the city.
Summer freedom will soon be ending. Some RAs are already moving out of summer housing and into their Fall residences. I have enjoyed the new friendships I’ve made over the summer, and now I am looking forward to the return of my friends this fall.
