Senior Year at the Fashion Institute of Technology

Hello everyone!

I’m finally here in New York City finishing out my senior year! I’ve just spent the past three years at Canisius studying marketing. Now I’m completing the rest of my program at the Fashion Institute of Technology. When I graduate this May I’ll receive a B.S. in Marketing from Canisius and an Associates degree from FIT. I don’t think anything could have prepared me for actually living in NYC, but moving to Buffalo first did help. I’ve experienced so much and I’ve only been here for three weeks.

Recently I moved into a tiny campus apartment with two other girls that are also here from Canisius. We all just started classes and it’s been crazy getting settled. Of course we all have to find jobs because it’s so expensive. Luckily, I just started an internship with Agent R.E.D. International a European fashion showroom. Agent R.E.D. is trying to market their brands in the U.S. by getting exposure in fashion magazines along with participating in tradeshows. It’s awesome to be around the day to day operations in the showroom. My three years of marketing at Canisius is definitely helping me understand what’s going on at work.

As far as the classroom goes, FIT is very hands-on and I am able to apply what I have learned at about marketing at Canisius to my fashion classes. For one of my classes we went to a museum exhibit called the History of Fashion. In my textiles courses we are constantly working with fabrics and learning what they are made of and seeing how they’re made.

In my spare time I love to explore the city with my friends! We’ve been to the Fashion District, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Greenwich Village, Times Square and we went to the Broadway show STOMP. I’ve also volunteered for fashion week and was able to help put together the Perry Ellis fashion show. I really am having the time of my life in NYC but I can’t wait to go back to Buffalo and visit all my friends!
