Galway Journal Entry 4: Halloween In Galway!
So this past weekend was a big deal here in Galway- it was Halloween weekend. The Irish celebrate it a bit differently than we do in the United States, though, which was interesting. It seemed to be a thing that mostly high school and college students celebrated, by dressing up when they went out at night. It was fun to go out and see the creativity in some costumes. I also attended the annual Halloween party of a club on campus, which was really fun. They had contests for Best and Worst Dressed, and went around asking for donations all night for an Irish charity, which was a brilliant idea.

I got the opportunity to visit a friend of mine from Canisius last weekend who is studying in London for the semester, which was great. I was only there for a few days, but we packed as much as we could into the trip. We visited the Charles Dickens House, the London Theatre Museum, which had exhibits on everything from Shakespeare to modern dance, the Globe Theatre, the Tower of London, and saw a musical the night before I left. It was really exciting to be able to travel with a friend, and not have a set itinerary. We planned out our day the night before, pretty much, and we left ourselves time to wander around the city and take our time.

So now it’s the beginning of November, and I just realized that I’ll be home in a month and a half, which is weird. The semester started off so slow here, but when it picked up speed it never slowed down. I just handed in my first long paper yesterday, which was a relief, and I have another paper due next week. After that, though, I don’t have any due for a little while, until classes are over. So that’s a relief. Everything seems to be due all at once here, which is nice until the week before it’s due—then it becomes stressful. So all in all, things are going well here. Even though it’s November, it’s still warmer here than it would be in Buffalo, which is definitely a plus (even though we’ll all probably freeze the minute we get back to Buffalo in December), and I’m coming home soon, which is exciting. Things are looking up, and life just keeps getting more and more interesting here!
