Honor’s Banquet

Every spring the honor’s program holds a banquet dinner at a nice restaurant to go over the events of the year and honor the graduating seniors.  When I heard about it I decided to go, if for no reason other than the good free food.  I only had one problem.  I didn’t know how I was going to get there.  I had planned on taking a car pool that was supposed to form for anyone who needed a ride downtown.  Either it never came or I never found it.  Either way, I had to find another ride.

I decided that the only realistic way to get downtown was to take the subway.  I was a little nervous because I’ve never taken the subway by myself before and was afraid of getting lost.  It wasn’t as bad as I had imagined.  I managed to get on the right train and I already knew which stop to get off at so that wasn’t a problem.  The only thing I had to worry about now was where to go once I got off the train.  Luckily I found some other people going to the banquet so I was able to follow them to Pearl Street Grill, where the banquet was being held.

Downtown at the Pearl Street Grill and Brewery.

Once I got there I had a lot of fun.  I met up with a few of my friends and we had a delicious dinner, which is a nice change from eating at the same place everyday.  Then there were of course speeches, it was a banquet after all.  The seniors’ achievements were announced and rewarded.  There was also a comic impersonation of a few of the honors teachers done by some of the seniors.  An alumnus also spoke about her experiences after graduation.  And since Mr. Butler was stepping down as the head for the honors program, there were a lot of gifts presented and people wishing him good luck and such.

It was a long night, but a good night.  I look forward to going next year, when I hope to know more of the professors and students.  It is a fun event and a chance to socialize with your peers (and get free food of course).
