3-15-2004  Spring Break Options

Greetings again everyone. Welcome back to my journal. And for those of you who are here for the first time, welcome as well.

Last time my journal was about housing on campus. This time I am heading out for my spring break. This past week was very hectic. There was so much work to be done before the vacation came. I had three tests, two papers and a huge research project to do. It was the most stress that I ever had in my entire college career, but I dealt with it and now I get to enjoy a whole week in Nevada!

I am going to Nevada to visit a friend that I haven’t seen since high school. It seems like it will be a very good trip and I am very excited. There are other options provided by Campus Ministry for Spring Break called Alternative Spring Break.

For people who don’t want to go home for the vacation and don’t want to stay on campus, there is a service trip. This trip is for students who are interested in helping Habitat for Humanity.

The trip is based around four main ideas -- leadership, service, community and simple living. During this trip the students and Campus Ministry staff focus on prayer and helping the needy. They go into neighborhoods in need of assistance and help in the area of home improvement.

Here is my friend Nicole, who is spending her
third year on the Campus Ministry Alternative
Spring Break in Appalachia.
My friend Nicole Cicchitti is doing this for the third spring break in a row. She’s been to Phelps, Kentucky; Almost Heaven, West Virginia; and this year she is going to Kentucky again. She likes doing it because it is helping out the community and that is a really important thing to her.

For anyone interested in helping out the community and getting to know your peers this would be a great atmosphere for you. You are able to make friends that become family for life.
