Hello everyone! It is finally spring time and things are getting more and more exciting as the semester is coming to a close. I wanted to spend some time talking about a program here at Canisius. It is the COPE program.
The COPE program coincides with HEOP which is the Higher Education Opportunity Program. COPE is a program for students who exhibit some form of financial need; it is also a place for students who exhibit potential in college but may not reach the requirement for normal entrance into the college. To get students into the college atmosphere there is a six week long summer program. During this program students are required to take classes in math and writing. The program also focuses greatly on the study skills of the students, to better ensure a smooth transition to college from high school.

Throughout the school semester there are counseling sessions to make sure that students are adapting and are able to maintain a full course load. This is the time to discuss any problems you may be having in class or otherwise, and if need be you will be directed to the tutoring center to help with specific needs you may have in a course.
On top of all of this there are also remedial courses that a student can take in math and reading to make them more comfortable if they don’t have the experience and skills to handle a higher level course. The COPE program is a good program to look into if you are really interested in attending Canisius but may not reach all of the academic requirements.
To find out more about this program you can visit the COPE website.
