12-2003 -- Getting to Know Me
Well, I’m finally back home on Long Island after a long and hectic Fall semester in Buffalo. It’s always a bit odd coming home, because I consider Canisius my home for nine months of the year. Everything I own is in my apartment at school so, in coming home, I can’t help but feel like a guest. Even though my initial feeling is awkward, Long Island becomes home again after a few days.
I’m so excited to be able to go to bed late because I want to, and sleep late because I can. Being heavily involved in our theater club on campus, Little Theatre (LT), I was always on the run this semester. I am Publicity Director for LT and also perform in the shows, as well as help build the sets and organize costumes and props. It’s a seemingly never-ending job, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love theater so much that literally staying up all night (in November, I pulled 36 hours with no sleep!) is something I am very much willing to do.
On top of LT, I am a Tour Guide, so every Friday afternoon and a few Saturday mornings I give tours to prospective students. I am also a work study student with the Admissions Office – I check the emails (so if you have ever emailed the website and got a response, it was from me!) – thank God my awesome supervisor is lenient with my schedule! If that weren’t enough, I am also a Service Scholar with Campus Ministry, so I have a volunteer job and I complete 25-30 service hours per semester.
Oh yeah…. I go to school, too. I am a sophomore Communications major, and next semester I will be picking up a Theater minor. I, of course, have absolutely no clue what I want to do with the rest of my life, but that doesn’t worry me at all. I’d say that most college students search for a direction throughout their four years. I love the Communications Department – my advisor is amazing (and was also my professor this semester) and the classes really interest me. I’m excited to begin the Theater minor – I’m sure I’ll write much more about that in the coming months…
Well, I suppose you’ve heard enough out of me for now. I am really looking forward to sharing my experiences here at Canisius… Talk to you soon!!
