July 2006
One of the Best Months July is one of my favorite months for three reasons: the Fourth of July, the weather, and the activities on campus and in Buffalo.
The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Barbeques, parties, nice weather, and fireworks—for what more could you ask? This past Fourth of July, a few friends and I went to Angola for the aforementioned festivities. After hamburgers and whiffle ball, we went down to the beach. Even though it wasn’t quite dark, people were already shooting off fireworks. All along the beach, gigantic bonfires were blazing. By the time night fell, there were so many fireworks going off that my friends and I didn’t know where to look. The Fourth of July is a practically hassle-free holiday that you can’t help but to enjoy.

I love the warm weather. With hot days and warm nights, the weather in July is wonderful. Lately I have been going swimming, walking, reading, having picnics, and bonfires. The lazy July days are truly relaxing.

But that doesn’t mean that they have to be boring and idle. Last week, the other RAs and I set up a s’mores night for the residents. Since bonfires are not allowed in the city, we roasted the marshmallows over a grill. The weekend before that, my co-RA and I had a brunch for our floor. Plenty of people came for the free food and fun. Tomorrow, there is an ice cream social. It is being held by Academic Affairs and takes place after the daily 11:30 mass. Last weekend, there was jazz music outside of the Albright Knox Art Gallery. The place was packed! There were people in lawn chairs and on blankets with picnic baskets and coolers strewn about the grass. My grandparents and I went in the afternoon and thought that it was really nice. The activities on and around campus are really enjoyable.

The middle of the summer holds a lot of promise. There is a lot to anticipate and look forward to for the fall, yet there is a nice cushion of time before any sort of stress sets in. I’m going to go out and enjoy it while it lasts!
