Back to Buffalo, Back to the Books

Scott Aspinall

What is going on everyone?  It’s been a month since we last chatted so I’ve got a bit of catching up to do… Just bear with me and get you up to date with all of the stuff happenen’ here at Canisius.

First things first, my Holiday break was fantastic.  I got to see all of my friends and even won the coveted “Toilet Bowl MVP” award.  Each year we play a football game and the MVP is awarded a toilet seat and here is mine:

Santa came and visited my house and I think he left some other kids gifts there too because I made out real well.  I also took a trip up to Vermont with my friends for a week of skiing up at Bolton Valley, which is close to Burlington.  The trip was great and we found this really cool double-black diamond that wasn’t patrolled by the ski patrol.  We had done the run a few times and were trying to get one last run in before it got too dark when disaster struck.  Upon entering the toughest part of the run, two very narrowly spaced trees (only wide enough for my snowboard to fit through) and a river to the left, I stumbled a bit but thought I could make it anyway.  I was wrong.  I missed my line and struck the tree on my left with my snowboard and flew head over heels into the river.

It gets better.  When I landed, I placed my left arm out to break my fall but because of the river bank, it hit the ground awkwardly.  This caused my left shoulder to re-dislocate leaving me wet and immobile.  Thankfully, I wasn’t the last one to attempt the run and my two friends Milo and Carter rushed down to see if I was ok.  They helped me to sit up and we made a makeshift sling out of Milo’s jacket.  We proceeded down the hill until the ski patrol caught up to us thanks to my other two friends Matt and Mike who booked down to the bottom and told them what had happened.  The ski patrol secured me in one of those cool sled things that they pull people around in and it was probably the coolest thing ever.

Anyway, by the time January 15th rolled around, I was sad to leave my friends and family but glad to see all of my college friends again.  However, I was not happy about waking up for classes on Tuesday since we had Monday off.  All-in-all, my classes really aren’t too bad.  I’m taking Honors Philosophy, English and Religious Studies along with Inclusive Strategies (my teaching credit) and a class on the Holocaust.  I enjoy the class on the Holocaust the most because I love history stuff but it’s a lot of work because we take so many notes.  Baseball’s started up again and we only have 2 weeks left until our first game.  Everyone’s real anxious to finally play and I think we will be real competitive.  Practice and class take up a lot of my day so now I’ve got to do some homework before I hit the hay.  Until we meet again…
