February 2006
Opening Weekend

Scott Aspinall

Hey, what’s up everyone?  Last time you checked in I believe you heard about my dislocated shoulder and I’m sure you all had a good laugh about that.  Well, I don’t have any stories as good as that one for this semester but I will try to keep you guys entertained.

First things first, now normally I would probably say video games but I’ve changed my ways for the time being.  After last semester, I got used to what I need to do to get the grades I want instead of what I actually got.  Unfortunately, this means less halo and more homework.  Thankfully all my homework has been reading and no actual assignments.  In my holocaust class, I have written a 2, 5 and 1 page paper and that’s it.  All my other classes have been pretty much nothing, I haven’t even had a test yet.  However, in a few short weeks we will already be at midterm’s week.  This semester has gone by so fast.  I’d say the most interesting class I have is my History of the Holocaust class with Dr. Jones.  He’s very knowledgeable and is really looking to help everyone to get a good grade.  Dr. Jones is more interested in seeing what you know instead of what you don’t know, which I believe to be a great policy.

Enough of classes though, baseball season has finally started but not the way we wanted.  After a long 12 hour bus ride down to UNC Charlotte, the guys spend the night in a hotel and awoke the next morning pumped for the first game of the season.  With our ace John Axford on the mound, we were looking good.  Entering the 6th inning we were up 6-2.  Unfortunately a few runs later, Charlotte caught up to us and wound up winning 8-6.  After that, we dropped the remaining two games of the series but our freshman dominated line-up did get their first experience which is invaluable.  This weekend we head to Tennessee Tech in hopes of getting our first win.

Well, that’s all for this month but if you wish to follow the team, go to the Canisius College Athletics page and look on the left for baseball scores for the weekends.  Well, I’ve got an important date with some groceries now so I’m off but I’ll leave you with these parting words:

“If I'm not back in 5 minutes, just wait longer.”
