August 2005  Getting Settled

Hey Everyone, Scott Aspinall here.  I’ll be one of the new class of ’09 writers and will try to help some of you who are thinking about attending Canisius College to make an informed decision.  I’m a die hard Bills fan and love the Yankees.  But enough about me let's move on to the important stuff.

I guess orientation is probably pretty much just a lot of information in a short amount of time.  The first day most of the welcome meetings were held in the Montante Cultural Center.  Later in the day, after all the different meetings were over, all the students were given several minutes to change to get ready for the Olympics.  If you’re one of those shy people like I am, then this is the perfect opportunity to start making new friends on campus.  They have six or seven different stations that included volleyball, water balloon toss and jump rope.  Not to brag but my team holds the record for most team members inside the jump rope at one time with seven.  It was a lot of fun and everyone pretty much got soaked through.

Finally August 25 came and luckily my roommate was already in the room because of late orientation.  I got to my room somewhat late but he helped us to unpack so we could avoid the rush of the following morning.  As 9 am rolled around on the 26th, we saw trucks carrying boxes upon boxes of stuff, huge lines at the elevator and everyone trying to get their rooms together.  Thank goodness we had already unpacked but I guess the “traffic” can be expected with 700+ people all trying to move in at once.

I have a corner suite in Bosch and consider myself to have won the lotto.  It has a living room, bathroom and two huge rooms that fit two people in each.  I had to have my stereo and TV set up so I could watch the Bills game!  I’m finally settling in and enjoying all the activities that the RHA set up for the Welcome Weekend.  Well, I have several things left to do and a few activities coming up so I’ll say so long for now.

Scott
