The LaSalle Medal
The LaSalle Medal will be presented periodically to outstanding alumni.

(a) Criteria for Selection.

  1. To be considered for the LaSalle Medal, one must have made substantial contributions to advance the interests of the College.

(b) Selection Committee.

  1. The President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  2. The First Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  3. The Second Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  4. The Director of Alumni Relations
  5. Two members of the Alumni Board of Directors; and
  6. Two members of the Alumni Association.

(c) Selection Process. 

  1. The selection committee will choose up to two alumni who satisfy the selection criteria.
  2. The selection committee will propose these names to the President of the College.  
  3. The President of the College will accept or reject one or both names.
  4. If all recommendations of the selection committee are rejected by the President of the College, the Medal will not be conferred in that year.
  5. Upon approval by the President of the College, recipient(s) will be phoned by the Director of Alumni Relations and asked to accept the award.

(d) The Award Presentation.

  1. The LaSalle Medal will be presented periodically at Commencement by the President of the Alumni Association.
  2. The LaSalle Medal award will consist of a framed citation and the LaSalle Medal    

(e) Miscellaneous.  The President of the Association will not be eligible to receive the Medal for three years after the conclusion of his or her term of office.


The Peter Canisius Medal
The Peter Canisius Medal will be awarded periodically to an outstanding individual who meets the criteria below.

(a) Criteria for Selection.

  1. To be considered as an outstanding individual, one must have made substantial contributions to the educational, spiritual, social, cultural and intellectual advancement of mankind; and
  2. One's career and achievements must constitute a challenge and inspiration to American youth.

(b) Selection Committee.

  1. The President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  2. The First Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  3. The Second Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  4. The Director of Alumni Relations
  5. The Rector of the Jesuit Community
  6. Three members of the Alumni Board of Directors; and
  7. Two members of the Alumni Association.

(c) Selection Process. 

  1. The Peter Canisius Medal Selection Committee will meet periodically at the discretion of the President of the Alumni Association to determine whether the Peter Canisius Medal should be awarded.  
  2. The selection committee will choose a worthy recipient who satisfies the selection criteria.
  3. The name and credentials of the nominee selected by the committee will be presented to the President of the College.  The President of the College may accept or reject the committee's recommendation.  If the recommendation of the committee is accepted, the award will be presented.  
  4. Upon selection, recipient will be phoned by the Director of Alumni Relations and asked to accept the award.

(d) The Award Presentation.

  1. The Peter Canisius Medal will be awarded at a suitable event arranged by the Alumni Association.
  2. The Peter Canisius Medal will consist of a framed citation and the Peter Canisius Medal. 
  3. The award will be presented by the President of the Alumni Association and the President of the College.     


Distinguished Alumni Award   
The Distinguished Alumni Award shall be presented periodically to recognize the accomplishments of alumni who have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers.
 
(a) Criteria for Selection. 

  1. Distinguished in one's chosen career.

(b) Selection Committee.

  1. The President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  2. The First Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  3. The Second Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  4. The Director of Alumni Relations
  5. Three previous Distinguished Alumni Award recipients
  6. Two members of the Alumni Board of Directors; and
  7. Three members of the Alumni Association.

(c) Selection Process. 

  1. The Selection committee will meet annually to review the qualifications of alumni who are prominent in their chosen careers.
  2. The committee will select from one to six candidates for the award.
  3. Upon selection, recipients will be phoned by the Director of Alumni Relations and asked to accept the award. 
  4. Upon selection, the President of the College will be notified of the recipients.

(d) The Award Presentation.

  1. The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented annually.
  2. The Distinguished Alumni award will consist of a framed citation, and the recipient's photo added to the Distinguished Wall of Fame.
  3. The award will be presented by the President of the Alumni Association and the President of the College.

Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award 
The Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes outstanding faculty members of Canisius College.
 
(a) Criteria for Selection. To qualify, a faculty member must:

  1. Be a full-time faculty member of the College
  2. Have served in that capacity at the College for at least three years; and
  3. Be distinguished for contributions to the academic world and teaching excellence.

(b) Selection Committee.

  1. The President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  2. The First Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  3. The Second Vice-President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  4. The most recent recipient of the award still at the College
  5. The Director of Alumni Relations
  6. The President of the Undergraduate Student Association
  7. The Deans of the Schools of Business, Education and Human Services, and Arts and Sciences; and
  8. One member of the Alumni Association. 

(c) Selection Process.

  1. The Distinguished Faculty Selection Committee will select the most worthy recipient.
  2. Upon selection, the recipient will be phoned by the Director of Alumni Relations and asked to accept the award. 
  3. Upon selection, the President of the College will be notified of the recipient.

(e) The Award Presentation.

  1. The Distinguished Faculty Award will be presented annually at spring Convocation.
  2. The recipient will be awarded a certificate and a cash award, and their name added to a plaque listing all Distinguished Faculty Award recipients.
  3. The award will be presented by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The Sports Hall of Fame
The Sports Hall of Fame is established to honor former outstanding varsity athletes of the College who have competed in intercollegiate athletics, as well as persons who have made an outstanding contribution to Canisius athletics in a non-playing capacity.

(a) Criteria for Selection.

  1. In order to qualify for selection, an athlete must be a graduate of the College;
  2. Must have completed their varsity sports eligibility at least ten years prior to the date of selection;
  3. Must have been acclaimed as an undergraduate as one of the outstanding athletes in the history of the College; and
  4. Since graduation, the athlete's life must have continued to reflect favorably on the College.
  5. Athletes will be considered for induction for a ten-year period after they meet the eligibility requirements.  
  6. An athlete may be considered under an "old timers" category following the 30th anniversary of the completion of their varsity sports career at the College.
  7. Non-athletes may be considered for selection at any time after their position with Canisius College athletics has ended.

(b) Selection Committee. 

  1. The President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  2. The First Vice President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  3. The Second Vice President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  4. The Director of Alumni Relations
  5. The Director of Athletics
  6. The prior year's recipients; and
  7. Nine or more members who shall serve for a three (3) year term. 
  8. The President may also appoint persons who, though not members, possess expertise in evaluating candidates and who would thereby enhance the committee's effectiveness. 

(c) Selection Process.

  1. The Selection Committee may select up to eight people each academic year.  The Committee need not select the full number in any year.
  2. No more than one person selected will be from the "old timer" category.
  3. No more than one person selected will be a non-athlete.
  4. Upon selection, recipients of the award will be phoned by the Director of Alumni Relations and asked to accept the award.
  5. The President of the College will be notified of the recipients.

(d) Award Presentation

  1. The award will be presented by the President of the Alumni Association and the President of the College.
  2. The recipients will receive a framed citation, and their photo added to the Hall of Fame.

The Distinguished Senior Award
The Distinguished Senior Award shall be presented to a senior who has distinguished him or herself through leadership roles and involvement with the College.

(a) Criteria for Selection.

  1. In order to qualify for selection, a senior must be in good academic standing.

(b) Selection Committee.

  1. The President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  2. The First Vice President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  3. The Second Vice President of the Alumni Board of Directors
  4. The Director of Alumni Relations
  5. The Director of Student Activities
  6. The Dean of Students
  7. The Director of Student Development; and
  8. One member of the Alumni Board of Directors.

(c) Selection Process

  1. The Selection Committee shall invite all nominees to submit an essay on how extra-curricular activities at the College have enhanced their education and discuss they have learned from their involvement in such activities.
  2. The essay shall be presented, along with the nomination forms, to the selection committee for consideration.
  3. The Selection Committee may select up to three distinguished seniors to receive the award each year.

(d) Award Presentation

  1. The Distinguished Senior Award shall be presented at spring Convocation.
  2. The Award will be presented by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
