Learning Goals & Objectives

Student Learning Goal 1

Students will exhibit strong critical thinking skills regard the roles of animals in society.

Students will:
  • Objective A: Synthesize inter-disciplinary information as it relates to human-animal studies;
  • Objective B: Identify strengths and weaknesses in arguments regarding the treatment of animals;
  • Objective C: Construct a literature review that evaluates a subset of peer-reviewed anthrozoological publications;
  • Objective D: Appraise, in light of one’s understanding of human –animal relationships, field trips, and guest speakers’ presentations.

Student Learning Goal 2

Students will demonstrate an understanding of human-animal relationships that extends beyond their personal frame of reference.

Students will:
  • Objective A: Compare human-animal relationships across two cultures;
  • Objective B: Compare modern human-animal relationships with such relationships from a previous historical period;;
  • Objective C: Identify factors that influence animal behavior.

Students will proficiently communicate anthrozoological information.

Students will:
  • Objective A: Construct an oral, evidence-based argument on an anthrozoological topic;
  • Objective B: Construct a written, evidence-based argument on an anthrozoological Topic;
  • Objective C: Debate skillfully with peers on a controversial anthrozoological topic.

Identify new skills and perspectives developed from participation in an internship or independent research project.

Students will:
  • Objective A: Identify new skills and perspectives developed from participation in an internship or independent research project.
  • Objective B: Compose a final paper that conveys outcomes of the independent learning experience.
