About the History Collection

Canisius has a rich history and this collection contains photos of many places and events that are important to the history of Canisius. Some places represented are:

  • Saint Michael's Church - one of the first churches built by the Jesuits when they were sent from Germany in the late 1860s.
  • Ellicott Street Building, the first home of Canisius College.
  • Washington Street Campus, the second location of Canisius College.
  • The Villa, which was the only building on the present Main Street campus until Old Main was built in 1910-12.
  • Canisius College in Holland - St. Peter Canisius' country of origin.
  • The creation and construction of the Metro Rapid Transit system that runs down Main Street, right in front of Canisius College.
