Father Raymond W. Schouten was born in Buffalo on August 11, 1905 and entered the Society of Jesus at Poughkeepsie September 7, 1925.
His philosophy studies were made at Weston and his Regency spent at Fordham University. In 1934 he went to Woodstock for his Theology where he was ordained in 1934 and Tertianship followed at Saint Andrew and Auriesville. In 1939 he was named Regent of the School of Social Service at Fordham University and held this post until his appointment as Rector of Canisius College, July 11, 1947. In 1952 he was assigned to the retreat house in Syracuse as Assistant Director.
During Father Schouten's term as President, -in 1947, the Old Sisters Hospital was renovated into a Business School,- 1949 Loyola Hall was erected,- 1951 Christ the King Chapel was built.
