Father John B. Theis was born August 13, 1857 and entered the Society of Jesus at Exaten, September 22, 1878.
His early teaching period was spent at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and in 1889 he went to Ditton Hall, England for Theology. his tertianship was spent at Lancashire, England in 1892, after which he came to Canisius College to teach in 1893.
Father Theis served for three years as Rector of Canisius College. he was appointed to this position on August 11, 1898. He served as Prefect of studies at the college following his presidency. In 1902 he left Buffalo for Cleveland, Ohio where he taught English. In 1909 he was Operarius in Cleveland. Father Theis went to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in 1910 where he remained for 9 years in the various offices of Procurator, Minister and Spiritual Father. In 1919 he was appointed Superior at Mankato, Minnesota for 5 years, returning in 1924 to Prairie du Chien as Spiritual Father.
Father Theis died in La Crosse, Wisconsin, August 15, 1932.
