Canisius & the BPO Connection

BPO on Campus

The tradition of the Canisius connection with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra continues with the annual BPO performance in the Montante Cultural Center.

Tickets are $25 general admission, $12 students and can be purchased through the Canisius College Fine Arts Office, 716-888-2542 or online at canisius.edu/artscanisius.

Informally~Formal Chamber Recitals

These recitals provide an intimate setting where BPO musicians share their favorite chamber works through stories and music.

Every semester, the art program brings in distinguished scholars to present their works to our community. We are also fortunate to be able to draw upon the expertise of our own faculty members as part of the Fine Arts Meet-the-Faculty series.

Studio Art Events

Studio Art Shows bring professional artists and their works to the Bouwhuis Library Peter A. and Mary Lou Vogt Gallery. On-going shows of student artwork are on display throughout the academic year in the Peter A. and Mary Lou Vogt Gallery on the fourth floor of Lyons Hall and in the Alumni Gallery between Old Main and Tim Horton’s Café.

Claire Schneider, founder CS1 Curatorial Projects

Ice caves, love buttons, earth-mound planetariums, a food + art CSA. Claire Schneider, a long-time museum curator and now founder of CS1 Curatorial Projects, will discuss her interest in place, category-busting, the entrepreneurial spirit, and her love of collaborating with artists. Her strong desire to expand the audience for contemporary art begins at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery extends to her award-winning exhibition More Love: Art, Politics, and Sharing since the 1990s and her current spearheading of Nick Cave’s Plenty, a citywide project to bridge Buffalo neighborhoods through art.

Holly E. Hughes is the Godin-Spaulding Curator & Curator for the Collection at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and will speak about how she developed her curatorial practice and share myriad behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the daily ins and outs of her work. Hughes' lecture will be an opportunity for her to share where she began her career and ways in which her unique curatorial work inspires her colleagues, peers, museum patrons and art history students.
