Faculty Notes:
Canisius College’s outstanding biology faculty is led by Paula Dehn, PhD who has chaired the department since 1989. Throughout her tenure, Dehn has promoted student field trips and research and secured substantial grant money from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She was recognized for her contributions to academics and teaching excellence with the college’s Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award.
Associate Professor Sara R. Morris, PhD was awarded a three-year grant to establish an innovative new program called Experiencing the Natural World: Exploring Our Environment in Western New York and Beyond. Students study the ecology and organisms of Western New York and other areas and prepare educational materials for the Buffalo Museum of Science.
Robert J. Grebenok, PhD, professor of biology, is the co-recipient of a research grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The research involves the use and modification of plant sterols to stop insects from eating particular plants. Grebenok is also the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) research fellowship. For his fellowship, Grebenok performed summer research on the Chloroplast 2010 program at the Della Penna Laboratory at Michigan State University.
