My favorite biological phenomenon: Communication. In scientific research there are tool designers and tool users. I am both a tool designer and a tool user. I am interested in designing tools and using those tools to examine how organisms relate with each other in ever changing contexts.

My favorite aspect of teaching: My favorite aspect of teaching is the positive emotion that is generated in the classroom as students grasp the content and readily contribute to the development of the topic.

Why I chose Biology: Science is ever changing. I chose a career involving teaching and research in Biology because this career choice provided me with the opportunity to continually learn new and exciting scientific topics throughout my career.

My hobbies: Wood carving, drawing, gardening, bowling, golfing, swimming, skiing.

My source of inspiration: I volunteer teaching science labs at local elementary schools. I take inspiration from the elementary schools student’s genuine display of enthusiasm for learning about science. It energizes and inspires me to help the elementary students explore the “how”, “why”, “wow” and “cool” aspects of science in the world around them.
