Our coursework involves numerous field trips to observe animals at zoos and in nearby nature preserves. Additionally, Canisius maintains an animal behavior laboratory on the third floor of Health Sciences Building. Through this lab, students observe various species in semi-natural and experimental settings.
The above courses may be taken independently of the others and in any order. Interested students usually begin with the course that best fits their schedule. Most of the courses are offered every other year, so interested students should plan accordingly. For more information on either the biology or psychology programs, please see the
college catalog.
Animal welfare and the ethics of human-animal interactions are an important part of the program. Lectures and seminars in these topics and instructions on humane techniques for handling and treating animals are included in our course work.
