Canisius Students Beat the National Exam Pass Rate

Participants who have completed this course in the past have consistently beat the national pass rate!  Students who sat for the PHR exam received a 21% higher score than the national pass rate of 58% and those students who sat for the SPHR exam received a 22% higher score than the national pass rate of 48%.

This is an intensive 13-week training program designed primarily for individuals seeking certification as a Professional in Human Resource (PHR®) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®). By attending our course, you will develop new knowledge and skills that will improve your workplace effectiveness immediately.

This class is offered in partnership with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). The curriculum, designed by subject matter experts, covers the 2013 HRCI Body of Knowledge and includes application exercises that develop specific competencies and decision-making skills. This program is also worth 35 PHR/SPHR re-certification credits if you've already received your credential.

Will this course help me prepare for the PHR and/or SPHR Certification exam?

Yes. This course is specifically designed for HR professionals looking to sit for the national PHR or SPHR Certification examantion test.

I hear you have to apply to even sit for either of the PHR or SPHR Certification exams. Is this true?

Yes. Anyone looking to take the PHR or SPHR must fill out an application directly through the Human Resource Certification Institute. No application is required to take this prep course.

Can a person with their PHR or SPHR designation take a SHRM Learning System course for recertification credit?

No. Below are the circumstances where a certified professional could earn recertification credits via the Learning System, Global Learning System, or California Learning System:

SHRM Learning System

  • If a student has their GPHR – they could earn up to 35 Credit Hours based on classroom contact hours for a University SHRM Learning System Prep Course

SHRM Global Learning System

  • If a student has their PHR/SPHR – they could earn up to 35 Credit Hours based on classroom contact hours for a University SHRM Global Learning System Prep Course

SHRM California Learning System

  • If a student has their PHR, SPHR and/or GPHR – they could earn up to 12 Credit Hours based on classroom contact hours for a University SHRM California Learning System Prep Course

What are the eligibility requirements to sit for the PHR or SPHR exam?

PHR ® Exam:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position with a Master's degree or higher, OR
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position with a Bachelor's degree, OR
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position with less than a Bachelor's degree


SPHR ® Exam:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position with a Master’s degree or higher, OR
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position with a Bachelor’s degree, OR
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position with less than a Bachelor's degree

By taking this prep course, am I automatically registered for the certification exam?

No.  Enrolling in this program does not register you for the PHR or SPHR certification exam.  You must apply for the exam directly through the Human Resource Certification Institute.
