Balanced scorecard is a metrics-driven approach to implementing strategy and managing performance. The balanced scorecard method considers not only financial metrics, but also business process, learning and growth, and customer metrics. Balanced scorecard is based on the principle that you cannot improve on what you cannot measure. As such, performance metrics must be SMART--specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Implementing the balanced scorecard system company-wide can be the key to successful realization of the strategic plan and vision.
