Contemporary Writers Series Presents Phil Klay

Phil Klay will read from his works on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Klay’s visit, which is part of the Canisius College Contemporary Writers Series, is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow the reading.

Klay is a Dartmouth graduate and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He served in Iraq during the surge and subsequently received an MFA from Hunter College, where he studied with Colum McCann. Klay’s work has appeared in Granta, the New York Times, Tin House and The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2012. His short story collection, Redeployment, was named to the 2014 National Book Award “long list” for fiction. Writing in the New Yorker, George Packer called Redeployment “the best literary work thus far written by a veteran of America’s recent wars.” In addition, Klay was named to the National Book Foundation’s “5 Under 35” list.
