General Description
Canisius for Buffalo Service Interns work as the student liaisons between a particular community partner agency and Canisius students.Through the Canisius for Buffalo program, Campus Ministry helps members of the Canisius College community on their journey to be "men and women for others."Not only does service enhance and enrich the Canisius educational experience, it also helps students develop valuable relationships, career, leadership, and social skills.Canisius For Buffalo Service opportunities are listed under the following categories: AIDS/HIV ministries, Health Care, Housing/Homelessness/Food Programs, etc.

Responsibilities
Serve at a Canisius for Buffalo community partner site doing community service.

Act as the student liaison between Canisius students and a specific Canisius For Buffalo community partner agency, serving as an advocate on campus for that partner’s needs and activities, and maintaining regular communication with that agency (Community partner sites).

Recruit and orient students and assist them with discernment, placement, and transportation to the site.

Plan and facilitate reflection opportunities for volunteers once per semester.

Coordinate one-time events, as needed, for students and agencies (holiday parties, social gatherings, invite people to campus for an event, e.g., an athletic event, a concert, host a study hall, college for a day, etc.)

Participate in regular supervisory meetings with a campus minister, period team meetings with other service interns, and training sessions.

Act as a positive representative for all Campus Ministry activities.

Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per week

Job Qualifications
Commitment to serving those in need, especially the materially poor.
Commitment to service as a positive force for social change.
Sensitivity to the themes of spirituality, service, and social justice within Catholic Social Teaching.
Comfortable with leading students in reflecting on their service experiences and helping students make connections between service experiences and social justice.
Strong communication and community-building skills.
Energy, creativity, ambition, and a sense of humor.
May not be an RA or have a job that interferes with training.
Must maintain a 2.5 GPA.


Eligibility
All students who will be sophomores, juniors, or seniors for the 2008-2009 academic year are eligible to apply. Applicants must be in good academic standing and have a history of upholding Canisius community standards.

Compensation
Stipend or tuition waiver of $1800 per year.

The following is a list of Community Partners where our interns are serving during the 2007-08 academic year. Assumption Boys and Girls Club, Benedict House, Journey’s End Refugee Services, Lutheran Church Home, St. Augustine and St. Monica Scholars Program at Catholic Central School, and T. J. Dulski Community Center

Students may apply for more than one internship. Students may hold only one campus ministry internship at a time. Students may apply for a second year if desired. Students must be full time students at Canisius and be at least in their second year at Canisius during the year of internship
