Canisius College

Meals on Wheels of WNY and Canisius College Campus Ministry partner together at the Delores Nelson Site on Brunswick Boulevard in the Hamlin Park section of Buffalo.  It’s about a two minute ride from the Koessler Athletic Center. 

MISSION:  Meals on Wheels for Western New York, Inc. is an independent nonprofit agency supporting the dignity, well-being and independence of the homebound elderly and disabled through home delivered nutrition programs.

When: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Friday spaces are available to deliver meals to the elderly, disabled in the area right around the college.  One of our routes is on Blaine, Hughes, Hedley the very streets that many of our students live.

We meet at 11:30 am and are finished no later than 12:20 pm, often we are finished by 12:05pm.  “It’s a limited time commitment but it is good, direct and meaningful service.   Everyone we bring a meal to is very appreciative.  For many of the clients talking with Canisius students for a few minutes is the highlight of their day.”  Says Joe Van Volkenburg, Campus Minister.
