Mission
Service is at the core of a Canisius education. Through service-learning and travel, we instill deep human values, and a sense of responsibility and social justice. In places such as Mexico City, New Orleans and Jamaica our students not only see adversity firsthand, they discover their own power to alleviate it. They become men and women for others. They become leaders.
We envision a Canisius that offers many more opportunities like these and a richer college experience overall.
Scholarship
Canisius is a leader in scholarship because of our inventive approaches to learning: experiential, interdisciplinary and collaborative.
The amazing courses developed through our Peter Canisius Distinguished Professorships brilliantly illustrate the endless possibilities provided by extra funding. With scholarly travel and experiences that enhance their lectures and texts, our professors conceive phenomenal ways to make the world very real for our students.
Collaboration is already the model at Canisius. Interdisciplinary courses and team teaching are common. Assignments are likely to be multi-media presentations developed by a group.
The sciences at Canisius are ever more collaborative. An inspirational new approach, and home, for the sciences will keep Canisius at the forefront of undergraduate education.
Engagement
As Buffalo Niagara’s premier private university, we provide leaders in every profession. As a community leader, we are a champion for progress, a powerful force for good. As an institution, we lead by example as well as instruction; we practice the values we teach. And as individuals, we embrace service as a way of life.
Our $120 million campus investment has revitalized much of Main Street and enhanced our stature as a community anchor. Our new science center will continue the renewal, unite our campus and enlarge our role in the region’s burgeoning life sciences economy. Smaller efforts such as our Employer Assisted Housing Program and the Urban Leadership Learning Community (ULLC) also have a huge impact.
Throughout the region, we have forged and will continue to forge rewarding partnerships at every level. The Canisius of the future will contribute even more.
