A Student Leadership Opportunity –Team Requirements
- Each team will develop a plan to solve an identified campus problem/opportunity in a budget neutral environment.
- Teams will be comprised of 4-6 persons.
- All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate (FT and PT).
- Teams must submit an application, including demographic and academic information for each team member, a 1 page outline of their proposal and a budget request for development of the proposal.
- A maximum of 7 teams will be selected for the fa’07 competition.
- Budget requests of selected teams will be funded up to a maximum of $400 per team.
- Each team will be assigned a faculty/staff mentor. There will be no compensation for the faculty/staff mentors.
- Each team will be assigned a student mentor. The student mentors will be members of SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise). There will be no compensation for student mentors.
Review of Proposals
- A panel comprised of 3 faculty/staff members will serve as judges for the competition. There will be no compensation for the judges. Faculty/staff serving as mentors may not serve as judges.
- Each student team will have a maximum of 15 minutes (including time for judges questions) to present their proposal to the judges. Presentations will be scheduled for Nov. 15, 16, (and 19, if necessary) 2007.
- Presentations must be multimedia and paper hand-outs are limited to 5 pages.
- There will be no prizes or gifts for the teams or the mentors. The top team will have an opportunity to present their proposal to the President’s Cabinet at a Cabinet meeting in late January ’08. The Cabinet will commit to implement the top team’s plan as much as is feasible. The Cabinet will decide whether the proposal should be presented to the Board at the Board’s February meeting.
General Rules
- Team applications will be available by September 25, 2007 in the Campus Programming and Leadership Development Office.
- Team applications will be due by 5:00 p.m. on October 5, 2007.
- Selected teams will be notified by October 9, 2007.
- Student teams will have access to a faculty/staff mentor for a maximum of 10 hours from October 10, 2007 – November 14, 2007. Teams should plan their time accordingly and be well prepared when meeting with their mentor. Teams should think of these meetings as times with consultant expertise.
- Student teams will have access to a student mentor from SIFE for a maximum of 10 hours from October 10, 2007 – November 14, 2007. Teams should plan their time accordingly and be well prepared when meeting with their student mentor. Teams can choose to meet with their faculty/staff and student mentors together or separately.
- Student teams are limited to the budget funds and mentor assistance they receive from the College for their presentations. No additional funds may be used and no outside assistance may be used (paid or unpaid).
