Here is a small sampling of some of the exciting things recent Canisius alumni have been doing since earning their degrees.  Be sure to click on the academic department links to find out more information about Canisius diverse programs.

Accounting:  Mark Zogaria '02 earned the second highest composite score in New York State on the November 2002 CPA exam. He is now employed full time in an accounting firm, working towards his CPA license, and is on the NYSSCPA Young CPAs Committee, Buffalo Chapter.

Athletic Training/Physical Education:  Eric Steward '98 combined a major in Athletic Training with a minor in Physical Education.  He attended Syracuse University for graduate school and was an intern Athletic Trainer with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He is now Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Washington Redskins.  Click here for news about other Athletic Training alumni.

Biology/Pre-Med:  Maria Raccuglia '03 is a first-year medical student at Georgetown University School of Medicine.  She is the seventh Canisius College alumnus enrolled at Georgetown Medical School and receiving financial assistance from the Joanne B. and Dr. George E. Schreiner '43 Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship fund assists Canisius graduates in paying for the medical school tuition at Georgetown.

Biology:  Kelli Fudella '02 is a Bio-Medical Researcher at the University of Rochester Medical Center in the Infectious Diseases Department doing research on HIV. She is pursuing her Masters in Public Health and hopes to eventually earn her Ph.D. in Epidemiology. Kelli says, "Canisius truly prepared me for the 'career world' and gave me a huge advantage over others applying for the same job.  Canisius really did make me a leader."

BiologyJames DiFrancesco '00 continued his education after Canisius at The George Washington University with a Masters of Forensic Sciences degree and a concentration in Molecular Biology.  He is currently a DNA Analyst at the Armed Froces DNA Identification Laboratory where he aided in the identification of victims of 9/11.  He is now identifying remains from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Business Management/Fashion MerchandisingDawn Agee '02 chose Canisius because of the strong business management program and the Fashion Institute of Technology affiliation.  The combination of a B.S. in Business Management and an A.A.S. in Fashion Merchandising helped set her apart from other job candidates and got her a job before graduation.  Formerly a junior buyer at Ralph Lauren, she is now Assistant Buyer at Calvin Klein.

Chemistry:  Although he was a Chemistry major, Thomas Van deVen '98 wrote his Honors Thesis on the 1930's Ukranian famine.  His advice, "Do things outside your major.  Employers and  graduate schools love it when they see students thinking outside the box."  Tom is now in his sixth year of the M.D./Ph.D. program at Duke University, one of the top medical schools in the world.

Communication Studies: Rachelle Held '03 earned an MSA in Sport Administration from Canisius in 2005 and went on to become the assistant commisioner for compliance for the Northeast Conference (NEC).  She is responsible for all NCAA compliance-related matters within the conference and is the primary contact for NCAA coaches' certification and letter of intent matters.  Held is the liason to the league's faculty athletic representatives, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Football Financial Aid Committee.

Criminal Justice/Women's StudiesMichael Lewis '01 combined a double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a double minor in Forensic Psychology and Women's Studies.  He is working on a Ph.D. in a combined School Psychology/ Counseling Psychology program at SUNY at Buffalo. He is studying long-term changes in IQ scores as well as developing a school-based suicide prevention program.

Economics/FinanceMary Luisi '01 combined a Liberal Arts Economics major with a Finance concentration and now has a great job that combines both.  She is currently a Business Analyst for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and plans to attend graduate school.

English/Art History: Rebecca Stanievich '01 combined interests with a double major in English and Art History.  She is pursuing an MFA in poetry at Emerson College in Boston and her goal is to teach composition and creative writing at the college level.

English/Psychology: Kathleen Riley '03 took a double major in English and Psychology.  She participated in the Canisius Alternative Spring Break service project in Appalachia and organized the first Winter Service Break trip to the South Bronx. She is currently in a two year teaching commitment through Jesuit Volunteers International in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Environmental ScienceTiana Marshall '02 was an Environmental Science major.  Her internship at Canisius led to a full time job as an analyst at an environmental testing laboratory, where she is still employed.  She also works in the Education Department at the Buffalo Zoo.

FinanceJames Faletta '01 had a paid Finance Internship that lead to entry into the M&T Management Training Program.  He is now a Retail Branch Manager of M&T Bank and is also enrolled in the Canisius College MBA program.

Finance/EconomicsJeffrey Blake '03 was a member of the All-College Honors Program and served on the Undergraduate Student Association as Vice President of Business and Finance.  He is now a Commercial Loan Officer at Jamestown Savings Bank.  He hopes to one day work in the stock market, "whether it be on the trading floor, doing research, or as an analyst."

HistoryAngela Monheim '03 was a co-leader of the Appalachian Spring Break service program during her junior year.  She is now working in the Special Education field for BOCES and is taking night classes at Canisius towards her Masters in Teaching (grades 5 - 12).  Click here for news about other History Department alumni.

History/GermanEdward Snyder '02 is the seventh Canisius History major to win a Fulbright Grant to study in Germany in the last fifteen years.  While there, he attended the University of Bielefeld and researched the question of resistance to the Nazi euthanasia program by the German Evangelical churches.  He is now attending graduate school at the University of Minnesota.

Management/Human ResourcesHeather Jordan '00 took full advantage of the Canisius College Career Center and knowledgeable Canisius professors to choose a career path she loves.  A major in Management and a minor in Human Resources led to a full time job as a Technical Recruiter for Computer Task Group, sourcing computer consultants for companies such as AT&T, IBM, and Kodak.  She has also formed her own photography company where she sells her landscape photography.

MarketingGayle Schultz '99 worked four years in production and account service at two local advertising agencies, and is currently Database Analyst at the Seneca Niagara Casino.

Political ScienceChristopher Grant '02 is a Legislative Assistant to an Erie County Legislator, a full-time law student at SUNY at Buffalo,  and recently managed the legislator's successful re-election campaign.

Political Science/Pre-Law/Criminal JusticeJulia Foy '02 graduated with a dual major in Political Science and Criminal Justice.   She is currently attending Notre Dame Law School on a full-tuition scholarship.  She is a member of the Notre Dame Law Review and has already received job offers from four law firms.

Political Science/European StudiesBrenda Nuernberger '00 participated in EUROISM in Prague, the Czech Republic in 2000, and studied abroad her junior year in Dortmund, Germany.  She took a double major in Political Science and European Studies, and after working for two years at a public opinion research firm in Washington
, D.C., she is now working on her Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Rochester.

Psychology: Benigno Rodriguez '03 is a staff member at Comunilife-Supported Housing Program and a teacher of self-advocacy strategies to foster care youth in New York City.  He received a master of social work degree from Fordham University.  Click here for news about other Psychology alumni.

Special Education/Elementary EducationRebecca Awald '03 was a dual major in Special Education and Elementary Education with a concentration in English and was presented with the Council for Exceptional Children Award at the Spring Honors Convocation.  She currently participates in the Graduate Literacy Program at Canisius and is working as a Teaching Assistant in K-5 self-contained classes at a local elementary school.
