Management Computer Information Systems

Full-Time Faculty: Edward J. Szewczak, Chair; Alan I. Duchan, Edward J. Garrity, Linda A. Volonino.

The Management Computer Information Systems (MCIS) Department provides its majors with a comprehensive perspective on the analysis, design, and implementation of computer-based information processing and telecommunication systems such as the Internet to satisfy the information, decision, and communication needs of managers, planners, and others throughout the organization.

Majors in the MCIS program combine extensive training in the use of computers and the design of information system applications, with grounding in the functional areas of business and public administration: accounting, marketing, management, finance, and economics. Because the program emphasizes computer and information system technologies as an integral part of a business education, majors will be prepared for entry-level positions as programmers and system analysts within traditional Management Information Systems departments, information services departments, or the functional business areas. As a result of continuous changes in computer technologies and the roles of information systems in organizations, career opportunities for MCIS professionals are expanding to include emerging professional roles as specialists in Information and Decision Support, in Telecommunications Networks, and as Webmasters.
