Tryouts

Tryout Procedure

The purpose of tryouts is to pick the most talented athletes who give the best representation of Canisius College.  Tryouts will consist of a Two Day Format.  All who are interested in trying out to be a Canisius College Cheerleader must attend both days in order to be considered for the team.

Day 1:  Registration, Material & Technical Clinic

Registration - Everyone who is interested in participating in tryouts must attend a Registration/Informational Meeting on the first day of tryouts.  This is to give you specific information about the program and to insure that everyone is aware of the safety guidelines prior to tryouts.

Materials & Technical Clinic - Athletes will meet and learn Collegiate Material.  This portion of tryouts will include jumps, tumbling, dance, chant, and partner stunting (Co-Ed & All-Girl).

Day 2: Formal Tryouts

On the final day of tryouts, athletes will demonstrate jumps, tumbling, dance, chant, and partner stunting (Co-Ed & All-Girl).  These areas, along with a short interview, will be used to choose the final team.  A judging panel will be utilized and the Coaching Staff will choose the team using the judges' scores as a guideline.  The Coaching Staff will select the team that will work best together and perform at the most elite level.

** The Final Team will be posted on this day 1 hour after all tryout activities are completed.  A brief team meeting will follow to discuss expectations, schedules, games, activities, and fundraising.

Cheer Tryout Attire for the Final Day Includes:

For Males:  Black Shorts, White T-Shirt (preferrably without any logo/design/writing on it), and sneakers.  Males are expected to come to tryouts clean shaven.

For Females:  Black Shorts, White T-Shirt or fitted Tank Top (preferrably without any logo/design/writing on it), and sneakers.  Females are expected to come to final tryouts with hair half up/half down, curled with a white bow.  Make up should be game appropriate.

There is no need to go out and spend large amounts of money on these items.  This is only to ensure everyone looks uniform.  This is for the final day only.

For the Clinic, T-Shirts and shorts are appropriate.  The Collegiate look is an important part of the Canisius College Cheerleading Program so consider clothing that is appropriate and appealing.  NO JEWERLY IS ALLOWED!!!
