Full-Time General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator
Position Description:
The General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator will teach, develop and/or revise general chemistry laboratories. Teaching duties include all general chemistry laboratory sections for science majors during summer, fall and spring semesters. Starting date is May 12, 2008, salary is mid to high $30s.
General Responsibilities:
Teaching includes a short pre-laboratory lecture, laboratory instruction and supervision, as well as grading (including student pre-lab preparation, laboratory reports, and laboratory practical examination if appropriate) and assessment. Conduct a minimum of five office hours per week for students. Participate in the decision making process by taking part in departmental meetings, work collaboratively with colleagues and department staff, pursue professional development to stay current in field, and strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical education.
Desirable Qualifications: A master’s or other advanced degree in chemistry or chemical education, commitment to student learning, experience using a variety of teaching techniques including the use of technology and hands-on instrumentation, college-level teaching experience, experience or interest in laboratory curriculum development, experience with safe laboratory operations and protocols including a working knowledge of handling chemicals, the ability to work well with people and to work well as a member of a team, an understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of the college.

Selection Procedure:
All application materials must be received by March 31, 2008. From the applicants who have submitted all required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who will be invited to interview. (Reasonable travel expenses to attend the interview will be covered by the college.) Interviewees will be asked to conduct a short teaching demonstration. Upon hire the successful candidate must provide the required documents of identity and authorization to work and attest he/she is authorized to work in the United States.
