The Cognitive Science minor is interdisciplinary in nature. It allows students who are already majoring in a related discipline to pursue associated interdisciplinary connections. Related disciplines include, among others, anthropology, biology, communication studies, computer science, education, philosophy, psychology, and business management and marketing. A study of cognitive science allows students to broaden the base of their career preparation by exploring connections between human cognition and behavior, brain functions, computational programs, and artificial intelligence. Some students will find the minor in cognitive science, combined with a major in psychology, philosophy, biology, or computer science, good preparation for entry into graduate programs in cognitive science. A cognitive science background can supplement studies that lead to careers connected with software or expert systems development, mind/machine interface research and the machine processing of language, or in areas concerned with human behavior where a knowledge of how cognitive processes enable people to deal with their environment is important.
