The Communication and Leadership program has two graduate assistantship opportunities. To qualify, you must be accepted (i.e., an undergraduate applying into the graduate program) into the program OR be a current graduate student in the program.

Graduate Assistantship (GA) Position # 1
Description: The Communication and Leadership GA position provides students in the program with an opportunity to work closely with the Director of the program, Dr. Rosanne Hartman, students, and faculty members of the Communication Department.
There is a required 16-hour/ week commitment where duties include updating program and student information, generating program materials, and providing administrative support to the Director. As a result of the time and work that this position requires, the selected student will receive a tuition waiver for the semester(s) they work.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Write copy for updating website, brochures, and various program media
- Manage student records
- Post announcements and program updates on web
- Organize student database
- Learn Banner program for following program trends
- Help conduct research
- Attendance at some recruiting events for the program
Position # 2 MS in Communication and Leadership
Graduate Assistantship (GA) Position
Description: The Communication and Leadership Master’s program offers a Graduate Assistantship position that provides students with the opportunity to work closely with the Chair of the Communication Studies Department, Dr. Barbara Irwin, and with students and faculty in the department.
This assistantship requires a commitment of 16 hours per week. Responsibilities include updating program and student information, generating program materials, providing administrative support to the Chair, and assisting with scholarly research.
The student selected will receive a tuition waiver for the semester(s) they work. This is a tuition waiver assistantship.
This Graduate Assistantship is a competitive position and is awarded annually.
Undergraduate and graduate GPA and financial need will be considered in the selection process.
Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Developing copy for Department website, brochures, and various department materials
- Assisting with marketing the department’s undergraduate programs in Communication Studies and Digital Media Arts
- Communicating with current and prospective students
- Assisting with scholarly, academic research projects
Qualifications for applicants of both GA positions:
- Must be a current graduate student or a newly accepted student in the Communication and Leadership Program
- Must be enrolled in classes for the semesters working as a Graduate Assistant
- Computer skills (both MAC and PC)
- Familiarity with Microsoft applications
- Internet navigation skills
- Research skills
