Kirsten Reppert
“Effects of Feedback Sensitivity on Job Satisfaction and Role Ambiguity”

In April 2008, Kirsten presented her capstone research and findings on feedback sensitivity at the Eastern Communication Association annual conference in Pittsburgh, PA. Her study on this relatively undocumented subject was recognized as Top Three Paper in the Organizational Communication division.

Feedback sensitivity focuses on how a person “receives, interprets and responds to feedback.” The topic has many organizational implications, because “we derive so much about the meaning and importance of our work from sources (coworkers, managers, completion of the task) around us.”

Darleen Peters
“Communication Strategies Utilized by Employees Using LMX Relationships”

Dr. Hartman, on behalf of Darleen Peters, presented seminal research and findings on In-Group and Out-Group communication strategies at the New York State Speech Communication Association annual conference in October, 2007. Darleen was “honored and excited” to have been invited to present her capstone study at last year’s conference.

Communication strategies are utilized by both In- and Out-Group members in an effort to “adapt, work and communicate within their workplace.” Research revealed that In-and OutGroup members “engage in similar communication strategies and tactics, but for very different reasons.”
