GOAL OF WATT COMMUNICATIONS
The goal of Watt Communications is to provide students interested in advertising as a career with an understanding of the trends and opportunities in the field today. Activities are geared towards establishing professional contacts in the advertising field and include guest speakers, participation in advertising competitions and portfolio development.

THE AMERICAN ADVERTISING FEDERATION
The American Advertising Federation is the only national association encompassing and representing all aspects and disciplines of the advertising industry. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the AAF serves its 52,000 affiliate members by representing their views and concerns on public issues affecting advertising.

Public Relations Student Society of America

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the preeminent public relations student organization in the world. Founded in 1968 by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the organization is comprised of nearly 6,000 students in 206 chapters nationwide.
The Canisius College Chapter of PRSSA was established in 1991. Since its inception, student members have taken advantage of various opportunities offered through membership, including:

* National and regional conferences designed for students to meet other public relations students, master new skills, and learn from some of the profession's top practitioners
* Networking with Western New York public relation professionals
* Free admission to many local PRSA programs
* A mentoring program with local PRSA members
* A variety of awards/scholarships and competitions
* Several informative national PRSA publications, including Public Relations Journal and Tactics, as well as Forum, PRSSA's national newsletter
* Associate Membership in PRSA, including a significant discount to individuals who have received their degree and who are PRSSA members at the time of graduation
* Professional Connection, PRSA's telephone career referral service, available free to PRSSA graduates seeking permanent positions in public relations

PRSSA membership alone can't prepare you students for the challenges of the profession. However, by becoming an active member, they can develop skills and qualifications needed by entry-level practitioners.

Canisius College with a working, hands-on experience in the world of radio. The official radio station of Canisius College provides opportunities for students to learn about the radio broadcast process.

Association for Women and Men in Communication

The Association for Women and Men in Communication (AWC) is a club open to all Communication Studies majors. The club's annual activities typically include: regular member meetings, a shadow program, tours of local businesses, speaker events, networking events, luncheons, volunteer events, attendance at regional communication conventions, and social activities. All of these activities provide important networking opportunities for our majors and prepare members for careers as communications professionals. We invite both male and female students interested in the Communication Studies field to participate in our organization. CCTV - Canisius College Television
Advisor: Dr. Barbara Irwin, extension 2108

The purpose of CCTV, The Canisius College television station, is to help interested students obtain "hands-on" experience with television and video production. Students gain vital experience in a variety of production roles as writers, directors, producers, videographers, reporters, and technicians (e.g., lighting, sound). In the past several years, CCTV has produced a weekly campus-oriented newscast, a news magazine format show, a music show, and is responsible for live video streaming of Canisius College basketball games.
