The Office for Community-Based Learning at Canisius College fosters the development of an enhanced learning process for students through the incorporation of community service within academic courses together with structured reflection on that experience in the context of the course. The mission of Community-Based Learning embraces the spirit of the mission of Canisius College which is to form “men and women with and for others."
The Community-Based Learning Advisory Boards are a key component in the effectiveness of the office and its mission. The Community-Based Learning mission is enhanced through regular meetings and consultation with the established Community-Based Learning Advisory Board. The Office for Community-Based Learning has three separate advisory boards; the Academic Advisory Board, the Partner Advisory Board and the Student Advisory Board.
The Director of Community-Based Learning consults with the Board members about matters which concern the functioning and on-going development of the Office for Community-Based Learning. Board members advise, offer suggestions, evaluate and dialogue with the Director about the issues, challenges, questions and daily activities with which the Director encounters.
