The Office for Community-Based Learning presented Certificates of Gratitude to faculty from all discliplines on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Spring Faculty Meeting held in the Montante Cultural Center. Certificates are in recognition of professors who participated in service-learning or community-based learning in the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 semesters.




Social activist Dolores Huerta traveled from California and presented "Now is the time to take action." She spoke about farm worker's rights, grassroots organizing, racism, health care, and women's rights.The event was well attended by students, faculty, and staff.

The event was sponsored by the Justice in Action (JIA) work group which is comprised of students, faculty, staff and administrators who work to coordinate, publicize, and develop initiatives that educate and promote awareness about justice issues.

Kathleen Maas Weigert, Executive Director of the Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching, and Service at Georgetown University came to Canisius College to speak on "Educating for the Common Good: Citizenship, Social Justice, and Service-Learning." The Social Justice Round table hosted four professors who presented on "The Commitment to Justice in Higher Education." The professors included Dr. Jane Fisher, Dr. Jonathan Lawrence, Dr. Tanya Loughead, and Dr. Erin Robinson.
