How can counseling help me?
You may think that the only reason a person seeks counseling is because they have "something wrong" with them. This is not true. Counseling assists you with wellness skills, as well as helping you to deal with your problems or concerns. Counseling can help you improve self-esteem, organize your time and life better, make reasoned decisions, cope with difficult experiences, overcome self-defeating behavior(s), deal with your feelings of worry, sadness, confusion, anger, misfortune, loneliness, or disorder in life, and learn to reduce your stress and relax.

Is there a fee?
All counseling services are free and confidential.

Who can access services?
Any full-time or part-time undergraduate and graduate Canisius College student may access counseling services.

How do I make an appointment?
Call 716-888-2620 or stop by our office located in the tunnel level of Frisch Hall.

How can I refer a friend?
If, in your judgment, a friend could benefit from counseling, and the situation is not of an emergency nature, ask the student to call (716-888-2620) or stop by the Counseling Center in the tunnel level of Frisch Hall and speak with our Administrative Associate. If possible, you may want to accompany the friend to the Counseling Center and encourage them to make an appointment in person.

Unsure of what to recommend or how to respond?
Request a consultation. A brief confidential face-to-face or telephone consultation with one of our counselors may help sort out relevant issues, explore alternative approaches and identify other resources.

Do you provide medications?
The Counseling Center can refer students off campus to our collaborating psychiatrist for medication evaluations. Due to the limited availability, these referrals are available only to students assessed by the Counseling Center staff to be in urgent need. If you think you may benefit from medication, please call the Counseling Center for an appointment with a counselor.
