Why study creative writing at Canisius?
Our program offers students the opportunity to nurture and develop their talent in a supportive community of dedicated readers and writers.
At Canisius, student writers study with a faculty comprised of award-winning, working writers who’ve published their own novels, stories, and poems with distinguished national presses and journals. Our professors work closely with student writers in small classes providing the kind of individual guidance, support, and feedback young writers need. Students may take introductory and advanced courses in a wide variety of genres: fiction and poetry writing, playwriting, memoir, and writing for young adults.
Outside the classroomThe Canisius College Contemporary Writers Series brings nationally-known writers to meet with Canisius students and to discuss their craft in an informal setting. Click

Internships with local literary publishers, such as White Pine Press, and with local arts organizations, like Just Buffalo Literary Center, provide our students the opportunity to participate in the vibrant Buffalo literary scene and to acquire professional experience as writers, teachers, editors, and administrators.
Life after graduationGraduates of our writing program have gone on to study creative writing at some of the country’s best graduate writing programs including the University of Notre Dame, Bowling Green State University, New York University, and Sarah Lawrence College.
