Alumnus Authors Comedy
Alex Livingston ’98 is the author of play entitled Alpha Geek, which was staged October 29 to November 8 at Niagara County Community College Mainstage Theatre. The Alpha Geek is a contemporary comedy of manners that both mocks and celebrates the world of video gamers and comic book lovers.



John Edgar Wideman Visits Canisius College


On October 8, 2009,  John Edgar Wideman, the critically acclaimed author of more than a dozen books, visited Canisius as part of the 11th season of the Contemporary Writers Series. In the afternoon, he met with a group of about 40 Canisius students to discuss his life and work, and after dinner with a group of students and faculty, he read before a packed house in the Grupp Fireside Lounge, answered questions, and signed books.



  
Gansworth Collaborates with Milton Rogovin
On November 1, White Pine Press publishes From the Western Door to the Lower West Side. The book includes photographs by the celebrated social documentarian Milton Rogovin alongside a new, book-length cycle of poems by Eric Gansworth, together exploring and illuminating the distinctive cultures of the Western Door of the Seneca reservation and the Lower West Side of Buffalo. At 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, the Burchfield Penney Art Center will host a publication reading of the book. Contact the museum for more details at 878-6011.




  
Cochrane Explores Bob Dylan’s Minnesota Roots
Mick Cochrane’s essay entitled “Bob Dylan’s Lives of the Poets” appears in a new volume published by the University of Minnesota Press: Highway 61 Revisited: Bob Dylan’s Road from Minnesota to the World, edited by Thom Swiss and Colleen J. Sheehy. The book examines Dylan’s roots in Hibbing, his rise to prominence, and his global impact on music and culture. It includes work by Greil Marcus, Ann Waldman, C.P. Lee, and other eminent Dylan scholars. Library Journal describes the book as “distinctive, thoughtful, and erudite.”.
