Extra Indians Wins American Book Award, Named NAIBA Book of the Year
Eric Gansworth’s most recent novel, Extra Indians, has been named a 2011 winner of an American Book Award. Established in 1978 by the Before Columbus Foundation, American Book Awards recognize outstanding literary achievement from the entire spectrum of America's diverse literary community. The purpose of the awards is to recognize literary excellence without limitations or restrictions. Previous winners of the award include Dave Eggers, John Edgar Wideman, Nikki Giovanni, Li-Young Lee, Sandra Benitez, and Chitra Divakaruni.
In addition, the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association has named Extra Indians the winner of the NAIBA Book of the Year Award in the Trade Paper Original category. The Books of the Year will be presented to the winners at the Awards Banquet of the Association on Tuesday, Sept. 20th at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City.
